ABRACADABRA aims to accelerate foundational literacy skills of five to eight year old students. While it can benefit all children, the hope is that children who live in the geographically isolated areas of the Northern Territory (where the majority of students are indigenous and for whom English is not a first language) will especially benefit.
The program is delivered through a unique interactive software tool that improves the base literacy skills of listening and reading comprehension, as well as pronunciation. Early analysis is showing an improvement in the literacy skill of these young students.
Charles Darwin University’s three year research associated with the ABRACADABRA early childhood literacy project, which was developed by the Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance, is supported by the Telstra Foundation.
