A promise worth keeping
Legacy was established in 1923 and founded on a promise to a dying mate in the WWI trenches to look after his family. Respectfully, returned servicemen still honour the promise to support the families of their comrades who have died during service to their country. Legacy not only provides educational support for their children, it provides medical and financial support, as well as social and welfare assistance to widows and families of deceased war veterans.
In 2009, Telstra and Legacy announced a long-term national sponsorship that provides both financial assistance and telecommunications services to help Legacy reach out in more ways to families in need, and connect them with a support network of other families who understand what they are going through. The sponsorship enables Legacy to provide support services that help elderly widows overcome social isolation, and enables this geographically diverse organisation, which is run by volunteers, to engage meaningfully with each other and share information across great distances.
