At Telstra we’re proud to say we’ve been working together with the University of Western Sydney (UWS) to design the ‘classroom of the future’. We’ve begun exploring the numerous ways in which the latest technologies can be utilised for teaching, learning and research, as well as connecting UWS students and staff to each other and the rest of the world.
Ultimately Telstra is working with UWS to invent the future of education altogether.
Telstra is currently exploring the feasibility of providing fibre optics to the buildings and facilities of the $40 million Climate Change and Energy Research Facility (based at the Hawkesbury campus), as well as discussing opportunities to implement a secure VPN to provide remote connectivity to teaching and research staff and assisting UWS to connect a number of its campus locations via high capacity Telstra Wavelength Services (TWS) and link its rural faculties with Next IPTM Wide Area Network (IP WAN).
The ‘classroom of the future’ signals a liberation from the importance of travel in order to learn. With the support of sophisticated fixed and wireless telecommunications and portable devices, students and lecturers have new-found flexibility to learn and teach in innovative ways. Enhanced communication and collaboration across the six campuses will lead to improved academic performances across the board.
